Can I create a "last resort - foolproof " backup without passwords/pins?

BC Vault features a flexible security model (See: How is BC Vault secured?), so you can choose the appropriate protection for your individual use. While we do not suggest that you ever use empty global and wallet password and pin, we will not stop you (it is your device after all). A "last resort - foolproof" backup can be created utilising this feature.

The procedure we suggest you use (Note: Backups contain only the current set of wallets, if you create a new wallet you will need to create backup again, see: Not Backed Up notification - Wallet backup flag):

  1. Create a regular backup with all your passwords and pins as they currently are.
  2. Use the "Change password" feature on all your wallets (More/Change Password) and the device itself (Settings/Change Global PIN-Pass) to change passwords to empty strings and pins to empty (just confirm empty pin).
  3. Create a new backup that will now use empty passwords and pins. We recommend you to use new/different microSD card for that purpose and store that card in some extra secure place.
  4. Restore the regular backup you created in step 1 and all your passwords and pins will be back as they were.

WARNING: TAKE EXTRA CARE HANDLING BACKUPS WITH EMPTY PASSWORDS AND PINS! THEY CAN BE USED BY ANYONE WHO POSSESSES THE BACKUP!
